James, Presque Isle win 12th

BREWER – Kyle James notched two goals to lead Presque Isle to a 6-0 schoolboy soccer win over Brewer on Saturday.

Dennis Saucier, Josh Gale, Nick Casavant and Andy Boulier each netted goals for the 12-1 Wildcats as goalie Shane Clark stopped all six shots he faced.

Goalies Mike King and Seth Bernier combined to stop 12 of 18 shots for the 1-12-1 Witches.

Shead 5, Woodland 0

At Eastport, Ben Maloney paced Shead over Woodland with two goals.

Gerald Holmes, Adam Cox and Willie Emery notched goals while Nick Bishop, Darren Constant and Larry Bowen added assists. Goalie Cliff Urquhart made five saves on seven shots for the 8-4-2 Tigers.

Goalie Marlon Lutz stopped 21 of 28 shots for the 2-8-2 Dragons.

J-Beals 2, DI-Stonington 2

At Jonesport, Matt Merchant netted both goals for Jonesport-Beals in a tie against Deer Isle-Stonington.

Jamie Alley added an assist while Abraham Beal made 16 saves on 26 shots for the 2-8-3 Royals.

Brady Ballou and Josh Bolton notched goals for the 3-9-2 Mariners as goalie Chris Gross stopped 13 of 30 shots.

Bangor 6, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Matt Anderson and Matt Oliver each scored two goals to lead the Bangor Rams by the Indians.

Kyle Cutshall and Jay Jeffrey each had a goal for the 9-5 Rams. Jack Brookings made four saves on eight shots.

Kevin Emerson scored unassisted for the 2-10-1 Indians. John Graves made 12 saves on 24 shots.

Ellsworth 2, George Stevens 0

At Ellsworth, Seth Mayo’s goal and assist led Ellsworth over George Stevens Academy.

Shawn Grindle notched a goal as Eric Maleck added an assist. Goalie Joseph Richards made ten saves on 14 shots for the 8-6 Eagles.

Goalie James Friend stopped ten of 22 shots for the 7-4-1 Eagles of Blue Hill.

Field hockey

Winslow 2, Belfast 1

At Winslow, Ashley Sennett scored her team’s first goal and assisted on the other as the Black Raiders improved to 14-0 with a win over Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference foe Belfast.

Amie Dubois assisted on Sennett’s goal while Jamie Morin made six saves on seven shots.

Sara McIntire scored the goal. Kristina Lane made five saves on six shots and Natash Scott stopped 10 of 11 while splitting time in net for the 12-2 Lions.

JV: Winslow 4-0

MCI 4, Camden Hills 1

At Pittsfield, Heidi Andrews tallied two goals and an assist to aid Maine Central Institute over Camden Hills.

Kerri George netted two goals while Alli Ross added two assists for the 8-5-1 Huskies. Goalie Sarah Sinclair made five saves on seven shots.

Rebecca Stein knocked in an unassisted goal for the 4-9 Windjammers as goalie Becky McCrohan stopped 31 of 46 shots.

Foxcroft 2, PCHS 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Holli Nichols knocked in an Amy Kelley pass for the game-winner in overtime as Foxcroft rolled over Piscataquis Community.

Amy Kelley notched a goal for the 9-4-1 Ponies while Liza Kelley added an assist. Goalie Megan Ryder made three saves on four shots.

Shyla Moulton netted a goal for the 9-4-1 Pirates of Guilford as goalie Catherine Riitano stopped seven of 12 shots.

Central 3, Hampden 2

At Corinth, Katie Ahearn’s goal and assist helped Central post a win over Hampden.

Casey Davis and Teresa Goldsmith notched goals for the 2-11 Red Devils as goalie Cindy Dehm made 17 saves on 19 shots.

Both Sarah Peters and Katherine Lumino netted goals as goalie Jen Hessert stopped five of eight shots for the 3-9-1 Broncos.

Girls soccer

Madawaska 2, Calais 0

At Calais, Kristen Cyr notched a goal and an assist to lead Madawaska over Calais.

Katia Sirois netted a goal while goalie Megan Marshall stopped eight of ten shots for the 10-1-1 Owls.

Goalies Lanna Martin and Katie Welch combined to make 18 saves on 28 shots for the 7-5-1 Blue Devils.

Greenville 2, Shead 1

At Greenville, Goalie Jessie Craft made 11 saves on 12 shots to pace Greenville to a victory over Shead.

Cindy Lebel and Lauren Dallam each netted goals as Patti Weingart added an assist for the 7-4-1 Lakers.

Kristen Beaulty notched a goal for the 5-7-4 Tigerettes of Eastport as goalie Natalie Smith stopped 18 of 20 shots.

Presque Isle 5, Brewer 2

At Presque Isle, Whitney Sirois paced Presque Isle over Brewer with a goal and an assist.

Jesse Miller, Autumn Tuttle, Sasha Levasseur and Kristi Doyen each notched a goal for the 7-4-3 Wildcats. Goalies Jessica Price and Michelle Post combined to stop seven of 11 shots.

Stacie Bean netted both goals as Melissa Jacobs added an assist for the 1-12 Witches. Goalie Amy Freeman made 12 saves on 16 shots.

JV: Presque Isle 6-1

Caribou 1, Nokomis 1

At Caribou, through two overtimes, neither Caribou nor Nokomis could net the game-winner.

Samantha Grier netted the Caribou goal while Jenna Vincent added an assist. Goalie Leah Drew made nine saves on 13 shots for the Vikings.

Lindsay Welch set up Sarah Frey for the Warriors’ lone goal while goalie Sara Lowe stopped five of nine shots.

MDI 25, Rockland 0

At Mount Desert, Junior halfback Basil Mahaney rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries to lead the Mount Desert Island Trojans to their second win and second shutout of the season.

Fullback John Lewis accounted for another touchdown and 91 yards on 15 carries. Middle linebacker Jesse Fogg had two sacks and 14 tackles as he led an MDI defense which held Rockland to less than 100 total yards rushing.

For the 1-5 Tigers, middle linebacker Blair Drinkwater led the defense with 12 tackles.

At Old Town, Fryeburg Academy senior running back Darryl Edwards, who moved to Maine from Florida last summer, carried the ball 24 times for four touchdowns and 292 yards to lead the Raiders by Old Town.

Matt Day returned an interception for a touchdown as the Raiders scored 33 points in the first half.

For the Indians, fullback Chad Holmes gained 137 yards on 16 carries and quarterback Keenan Goslin passed for 163 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for another.

Belfast 54, Lake Region 13

At Belfast, tailback Jeff Parenteau scored three touchdowns and collected 143 yards on 19 carries to lead the host Lions to the win over Lake Region of Naples.

Quarterback Ben Morley (34 yards on seven runs and 4-for-6 passing for 62 yards) converted four, two-point conversion attempts – two on passes and two on runs – to help the Lions shake off a disastrous start. Belfast fumbled the opening kickoff, took over on its own 1-yard line, and then fumbled again, allowing Lake Region’s

Tom Staley to recover the fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.

The Lakers’ Brian Callahan scored on a three-yard run late in the fourth quarter for his team’s only other score of the game.

Dexter 38, Orono 6

At Dexter, Tigers tailback Jason Clukey gained 154 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries as Dexter took a 19-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Fullback Kevin Armstrong had 12 carries for 101 yards. Dexter’s passing game was paced by tight end Ben Robinson, who caught three passes for 86 yards, and quarterback Vinnie Greene, who was 6-for-12 for 140 yards and a touchdown.

Dexter piled up 368 yards rushing for 508 total yards while holding Orono to 72 rushing and 47 passing.

Red Riots quarterback Mike Munson scored the only Orono points on a three-yard run in the third quarter.

At Scarborough, Nial Demena rushed for two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 85 yards for another to lead the unbeaten Redskins past Madison.

Scarborough, playing an exhibition schedule as part of the Campbell Conference Class C conference, is playing a regular season schedule but is not eligible for the playoffs. Last year, the Redskins played in the five-team developmental league.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-4 with the loss.
