Workshops for small business owners slated for 3 counties

The U.S. Small Business Administration is announcing Historically Underutilized Business Zone workshops for businesspeople in Piscataquis, Somerset and Franklin counties.

These workshops are for small business owners who are interested in expanding their markets to the federal government and finding out if they qualify as a HUBZone small business.

Workshops are scheduled in the following locations:

. Dover-Foxcroft, 5:30-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Penquis CAP, 50 North St. Counseling is available from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 17.

. Skowhegan, 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, Skowhegan Area High School, Room 10. Use adult education entrance on West Front Street. Counseling is available from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 18.

. Farmington, 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, University of Maine at Farmington, 173 High St., Preble Hall. Counseling is available from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 19.

HUBZone certified firms are eligible for sole-source contracts, set-asides, and price preferencing in federal markets.

These free workshops will provide contracting program information for qualified small business concerns and an opportunity to sign up for one-on-one counseling.
