Schrage, Russell combine for Broncos’ shutout win

NEWPORT – Gabby Schrage and Emmy Russell combined to turn away seven of 15 shots as the Hampden Broncos remained undefeated with a 2-0 girls soccer victory over Nokomis Wednesday afternoon.

Dani Billings and Jill Campbell scored the goals for 10-0-3 Hampden.

Sara Lowe stopped eight of 14 shots for the 6-7-1 Warriors.

JV: Hampden 6-1

Caribou 3, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Molly Bell scored two goals to help the Vikings past the Witches.

Ashley Soucie added a goal and two assists for 2-11-1 Caribou while Leah Drew made 15 saves on 26 shots.

Amy Freeman made 10 saves on 13 shots for 1-13 Brewer.

JV: Caribou 3-1

Houlton 3, Schenck 2

At East Millinocket, Sarah Beasley scored a pair of goals, including the game-clincher with 11 minutes to play to lead the 7-2-4 Shiretowners to the win. Schenck fell to 5-6-3.

Megan Miller assisted on Beasley’s game-winner for Houlton. Natalie Foster added an unassisted goal for the winners. Sam Berry made seven saves on nine shots.

Sarah Gordon scored both goals for the Wolverines. Raynie Smith assisted on both of them, and Emily Davis stopped six out of 12 shots.

Bucksport 1, Old Town 0

At Bucksport, Jana Richards notched the shutout in stopping nine of 12 shots to lead the Bucks.

Jessica Sawyer scored an unassisted goal from the top of the penalty box for the 14-0 Bucks, who unleashed a 31-shot flurry. Bucksport enters the playoffs as the top seed in class B.

Nicole Hesseltine stopped six of the 31 shots she faced for the Indians, who closed out the season at 8-6.

Mount View 4, Maranacook 1

At Thorndike, Jennah Brown netted two goals as the Mustangs rolled.

Zahara Coddington and Tara Stevens each scored for 5-7-2 Mount View. Anne Mathieson and Phoebe Garfinkle added assists and Danielle Mayer made four saves on six shots.

Sarah Meyer recorded an unassisted goal for the 4-9-1 Black Bears of Readfield. Jasmine Carey stopped six of the 11 shots she faced.

Boys soccer

BC Patriots 10, Highview 2

At Bangor, Matt Conley scored three goals and assisted on another to pace Bangor Christian to victory.

Alvaro Barros contributed two goals and an assist, while Ben Sobey and Nick Harriman provided one goal and one assist each for 13-1 Bangor Christian. Josh Lewis, Kliton Xhemali and Chris Crane scored one goal apiece, with Corey Jeskey and Chase Ossinger adding assists.

Greg Patterson and D.J. McCleary combined to make six saves on eight shots.

Nick Waite and Anthony Kneeland scored goals for 2-5-1 Highview Christian of Charleston. David Day had an assist and combined with Devan Philbrick to make 12 saves on 27 shots.

MCI 4, Oak Hill 3

At Pittsfield, Mike Nayock scored the game-winner with 1:26 left off an Andrew Coffin pass to give Maine Central Institute its eighth win against five losses and a tie.

Hampden 3, Nokomis 2

At Hampden, Ryan Kaufman scored twice to lift Hampden past Nokomis.

Both of Kaufman’s goals were unassisted. Mike Bienekey contributed with an unassisted goal for the Broncos, who finished 8-5-1. Matt Goodman made five saves on seven shots.

Shawn Henderson and Justin Nichols scored the goals for the Warriors of Newport. Derek Graves and Justin Veazie paced the attack with assists, and Tyler Peters made 10 saves on 14 shots. Nokomis finished 7-5-2.

JV: Hampden 4-0

Orono 4, MDI 0

At Orono, Jake Hedstrom tallied a pair of goals as the Red Riots cruised to their fifth win against eight losses. The Trojans finish 8-4-1.

Derek Williams and Nat Breece had one assist apiece for the winners. Micheal-John Tavantis notched a goal and assist. Daryl Watson contributed with an unassisted goal, and Mark Mehuren stopped all 10 shots he faced in posting the shutout.

Ben Sekulich stopped 12 out of 16 shots for MDI.

Hermon 4, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Gaston Pineiro scored three goals as Hermon concluded a 5-6-3 regular season.

Brandon Robinson had the other goal and Reid Frye, James Applebee and Josh Danforth had an assist each. Matt Watson made five saves on 16 shots.

John Graves made 12 stops on 18 shots for 2-11-1 Old Town.

Foxcroft 4, Hampden 0

At Hampden, Amy Kelley scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Ponies blanked the Broncos.

Holli Nichols scored two goals for 12-2 Foxcroft Academy and Molly Tibbetts added an assist. Megan Ryder made nine saves on 12 shots.

Jennifer Hessert made 20 saves on 28 shots for 3-10-1 Hampden Academy.

JV: Foxcroft 2-1

Field hockey

Dexter 3, Orono 0

At Orono, Kristy Veazie scored a goal and assisted on two, including one to her sister Brittany Veazie, to power the Tigers.

Keriann Patterson chipped in with a goal for the 13-0-1 winners and Courtney McCormick added an assist. Cindy Koscielny made one save on two shots.

For 5-9 Orono, Jessie Newcomb made 30 saves on 37 shots.

Mattanawcook 2, Orono 0

At Orono, Katie Dufrense and Miranda Bellantoni each scored unassisted goals to beat Orono as the hosts completed a rare doubleheader.

Orono played Dexter earlier in the day, a 3-0 loss, as the teams scrambled to finish on the last countable day of regular season games.

Sara McCormick made one save on one shot for the 8-7 winners of Lincoln.

For 5-10 Orono, goalie Susan McLaughlin made 19 saves on 21 shots.

Hermon 3, Stearns 2

At Hermon, three different players scored to lift the Hawks past the Minutemen.

Noelle O’Clair, Erin Lucey, and Kaylee Cooper scored for 4-9 Hermon. Lucey, Tonya Laughlin and Sasha Bladen paced the attack with one assist apiece. Kacie Hutchinson turned away 13 of the 15 shots she faced.

Rachel Morrison and Candice Achorn scored the goals for Stearns of Millinocket, who finished 6-5-3. Jessica Osborne and Megan Nicholson each had an assist, and Pam Pelletier made 10 saves on 13 shots.

JV: Hermon 1-0

Bangor 0, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, the Crusaders outshot Bangor 47-3 but weren’t able to solve Frankee Waldron in the scoreless tie.

Julia Sleeper made three saves on three shots for 6-6-2 John Bapst. Waldron turned away all 47 shots for 0-12-2 Bangor.

JV: Bangor 6-0
