GRAND LAKE STREAM – A man was feared drowned late Thursday when a boat overturned on West Grand Lake.

Two men were in the boat and one managed to swim safely to shore, according to Sgt. Mike Marshall of the Maine Warden Service at Ashland.

After coming ashore, the survivor went to his camp and was met by campers who helped him recover from his ordeal. He didn’t receive medical attention but reportedly was doing all right, Marshall said.

A dive team from the Maine Warden Service will be at the site at 9 a.m. Friday. The victim and his companion, tourists from Pennsylvania, were staying at a camp on the east end of the lake. West Grand Lake is a 17,000-acre body of water.

Marshall said a game warden was on his way to the scene late Thursday evening.
