YARMOUTH – Eleven teams started the day but only four Downeast Athletic Conference foes remained when Saturday’s preliminary and quarterfinal rounds of the girls high school volleyball tournment wrapped up at Yarmouth High School.

In prelim action, No. 8 Cony of Augusta topped No. 9 Yarmouth 15-12, 15-8, 15-13, No. 7 Machias eliminated No. 10 Bucksport 15-12, 5-15, 15-8, 15-12 and No. 6 Washington Academy of East Machias knocked off No. 11 Gorham 15-8, 15-5, 15-5.

In the quarterfinals, the top three seeds advanced: No. 12 Woodland beat Cony 15-2, 15-10, 15-9. Ashley Marble paced the Dragons with nine kills, two blocks and two digs. Kelsy Snowman was 12-for-12 serving and handed out 10 assists= while Kacie White recorded five kills and two digs and Lisa Kneeland scooped up four digs. Cony’s Chrisara Flury had two assists and two kills.

No. 2 Narraguagus of Harrington prevailed over Machias 15-8, 5-15, 15-12, 15-10, No. 3 Lubec defeated Washington Academy 15-13, 15-10, 13-15, 15-11.

No. 5 Calais eliminated three-time defending state champion Jonesport-Beals 8-15, 15-12, 15-6, 13-15, 15-9.

Nancy Feck paced 9-7 the Blue Devils with 14 service points, six aces and 11 assists. Meghan Day had 15 points, seven aces, and four kills while Trina Leeman added 12 points, three aces and four kills.

For the 9-6 Royalettes, Shafay Look served five aces, Roberta Garnett had five kills, and Tina Woodard had six assists.
