Indians garner victory > Maurais’ goal sparks Old Town

FORT KENT – Jessica Maurais’ goal with 30:04 left in the game gave the No. 8 Old Town Indians a 3-2 Class B semifinal victory over the No. 5 Fort Kent Warriors in schoolgirl soccer action Tuesday.

Mallory Brown assisted on the winning goal for the Indians who upset No. 1 Bucksport Saturday and now advance to this Saturday’s Eastern Maine championship.

Hannah Marquis scored and had an assist while Jenny Reinzo added a goal for the 12-6 winners. Goalie Nicole Hesseltine faced 11 shots and stopped six.

Jackie Masse and Danielle Pinette each scored a goal and had an assist for 10-5-1 Fort Kent while Heather Hartman made 13 saves on 19 shots.

Winslow 2, Ellsworth 1 (OT)

At Winslow, Erin Corey scored the winning goal unassisted for the No. 2-ranked Black Raiders with four minutes remaining in the first overtime.

Brittany Maclean scored with an assist from Corey while Bethany Rodrigue stopped nine of the 15 shots she faced for 16-1 Winslow.

Sarah Silsby scored for 12-4-1 Ellsworth with assists going to Becky Lock and Becca Saunders. Victoria Jones faced 15 shots and stopped seven for the No. 6 Eagles.

Class A

Brunswick 3, Bangor 0

At Brunswick, Laura-Lee Bishop scored two goals for No. 1-ranked Brunswick while Molly Chester and Alison Doughty had the assists.

Megan Doughty scored an unassisted goal while Megan Halmo saved all four of the shots she faced for the 15-0-1 Dragons.

Katherine Miller faced 24 shots and stopped 21 for No. 4 Bangor, which finishes 13-2-1.

Class C

Madawaska 1, Dexter 0

At Madawaska,Katia Sirois finished off a give-and-go with Amy Roy to lift the No. 1 Madawaska Owls over No. 4 Dexter.

Sirois started the play with a pass to Roy with 15 minutes left in the first half. Roy passed the ball back to Sirois, who booted it into the bottom right corner of the net. Meghan Marshall stopped all seven shots she faced to give the 13-1-1 Owls their 10th shutout of the year.

Briley Belanger made 21 saves on 27 shots for the Tigers, who finished 12-3-1.

Class D

Van Buren 2, Bangor Christian 0

At Van Buren, Micah Laplante scored one goal and set up the other to lead the No. 2 Crusaders.

Laplante assisted on Heather Parent’s first-half goal, then scored on an Amy Vaillancourt assist in the second half. Danielle Gagnon made six saves on eight shots for 11-4-1 Van Buren.

Lee-Ann Trottier registered eight saves on 13 shots for No. 3 Bangor Christian, which finished at 6-8-2.
