Belskis drives Owls to playoff win

PRESQUE ISLE – Darren Belskis scored the game’s first two goals to lead the No.3 Owls of the University of Maine at Presque Isle to a 3-2 win over UM-Fort Kent in a Maine Athletic Conference men’s soccer quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Tony Caristi paced the attack with two assists for 11-5 UMaine-Presque Isle. Jacob Von Oesen tallied one goal for the winners, and Jon Cole made three saves on six shots.

Jay Plourde scored off a penalty kick for No.6 UMaine-Fort Kent, which finished 3-12. Neal Jandreau had an unassisted goal. Tim Miller stopped 13 of 20 shots.

Bates 0, Bowdoin 0 (OT)

At Brunswick, the Bobcats battled to a tie with the Polar Bears, who are ranked No. 11 in the nation and No. 2 in New England.

Bowdoin (10-1-1) outshot Bates 13-10 and received two saves from Travis Derr.

Dan Spector made four saves for the 6-6-1 Bobcats.
