Old Town church loses Oliver to retirement

The Rev. Dr. Alston Oliver, pastor of Christ Church of Faith – formerly the Apostolic Church of Old Town – and a member of the International Ministerial Association, has retired after 30 years as a minister, 23 of them at Christ Church of Faith. Oliver is a clinical therapist in the Greater Bangor area at Community Health and Counseling Services.

Oliver’s ministry began in 1970 as a student of the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Maine in Orono, and a doctoral degree in psychoanalysis from Walden University, Minneapolis, Minn. He will continue as president of Cornerstone Theological University, training clergy and counselors in Christian ministry and counseling.

Under his leadership at Christ Church of Faith, a new church was built in 1978 and the church has had as many as 176 people attending Sunday morning services.
