NEWARK, Del. – Rebecca Ouellet scored two goals Sunday as the University of Maine Black Bears opened up a three-goal lead before holding on for a 3-2 America East field hockey victory over Delaware.
Jen Johnstone and Kristi Knights also scored goals for 8-11 Maine, now 3-5 in America East. Noriko Kariya added an assist and Danielle Burke made six saves on 12 shots.
Stacey Thomas knocked in two goals for Delaware (8-11, 5-3) and Jessica Breault also scored. Stephanie Judefind and Andrea Grasso combined for three saves on nine shots.
MAC championship postponed
The 2000 Maine Athletic Conference championship field hockey game scheduled for Sunday was postponed because of the snowstorm. The MAC will today announce a new date for the game between UMaine-Farmington and St. Joseph’s of Standish.
Men’s soccer MAC title game postponed
The 2000 Maine Athletic Conference men’s championship game between UMaine-Presque Isle and St. Joseph’s College of Standish has been postponed.
The game will be played Saturday, Nov. 4, at Thomas College in Waterville, 30 minutes after the women’s game ends. The women’s game starts at 10 a.m.
UMPI 3, UM-Farmington 2
At Waterville Saturday, after two overtimes, goalie Jon Cole made a save on No. 2 Farmington’s fifth penalty kick to help third-seeded UMaine-Presque Isle post the MAC semifinal victory.
Aaron Miller and Dan Caavant each notched second-half goals while Tony Caristi and Tim Frost added assists for the 12-5-0 Owls. Jon Cole made 13 saves on 23 shots.
Jeff Meinhart and Jeff Beck nailed goals for the 8-5-3 Beavers as Mitchell Panati tallied an assist. Glenn Mirlocca and Mike Hauser combined to stop six of 11 shots.
St. Joseph’s 2, Husson 1
At Waterville Saturday, Mike Erickson’s two goals led No. 4 St. Joseph’s College to the upset of No. 1 Husson College in a MAC semifinal game.
Mike Crockett added an assist for the 11-7-1 Monks of Standish while Jeff Yaeger stopped 13 of 17 shots.
Jamie Lambert scored on a Lee Bennett assist and Mark Cucinelli made eight saves on 13 shots for the 9-5-1 Braves of Bangor.
Colby 1, Bates 0
At Lewiston Saturday, Jamie Lue’s goal in the second half led Colby of Waterville past Bates.
Carl Tugberk added an assist while goalie Justin Amirault stopped eight of 16 shots for the 6-6-2 White Mules.
Dan Spector made three saves on four shots for the 6-7-1 Bobcats.
Women’s soccer MAC championship postponed
The 2000 Maine Athletic Conference women’s soccer championship game between UMaine-Farmington and St. Joseph’s College of Standish has been postponed because of the snowstorm.
The game will be played Saturday, Nov. 4, at Thomas College in Waterville at 10 a.m. The men’s game will follow 30 minutes after the women’s game ends.

At Biddeford Saturday, Kayce Howard broke a scoreless tie at the 76:44 mark and Heather Wilde added a goal with 24 seconds left in the game to lift the Nor’easters to the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional tournament.
Krissy Forman had two assists for the University of New England, now 13-5-1. Melissa Dolbec made eight saves.
Laura Hampson stopped seven shots for the 15-6-1 Amcats.
Volleyball
Maine 3, Hartford 2
At West Hartford, Conn., Saturday, Leah Voss racked up 17 kills and 13 digs to power the Black Bears past the Hawks with game scores of 7-15, 15-8, 15-9, 13-15, 15-9.
Adrienne Poplawski had 13 kills and two block assists for Maine (10-14, 3-7 America East). Cheryl Elliott tallied 42 assists. Randi Olin had 11 kills.
Marisa Vino led Hartford (6-14, 2-80 with 14 kills and 13 digs. Kristy Ruffner had 21 digs.

Colby 14, Bates 0
At Lewiston, Colby’s Danny Noyes rushed on 16 carries for a season-high 90 yards Saturday as the White Mules took the first step toward a Colby-Bates-Bowdoin series title with a 14-0 shutout of Bates at Garcelon Field.
Joe Murray scored on a 3-yard run with 10:33 left in the first, after Colby took advantage of a poor Bates punt to go 37 yards in seven plays. Pat Conley (10-for-22, 144 yards) added the other Colby touchdown on a 1-yard run with four minutes left in the fourth quarter.
It was Colby’s first win over Bates since 1996.

Worcester St. 31, MMA 9
At Castine, Todd Daskowski ran for three touchdowns as Worcester State beat Maine Maritime Academy.
Kevin Gniadek ran for a 51-yard touchdown in the fourth to cap off the scoring for 6-2 Worcester State after Daskowski’s three touchdowns in the second and third quarters brought the team back from a 9-6 deficit.
Maine Maritime (0-8) scored all its points in the second quarter, with Pete Baker scoring a 4-yard touchdown with 11:19 left and scoring on a safety at 5:50. Quarterback Chris Pelletier of Skowhegan completed 10 of 19 passes for 129 yards and was intercepted twice for the Mariners, who had four turnovers.
Keith Anderson scored the first touchdown for WSC with a one-yard run with 5:50 left in the second quarter.

Wesleyan 33, Bowdoin 7
At Middletown, Conn. – Wesleyan improved to 4-2 as it defeated winless Bowdoin (0-6).
Wesleyan’s special teams blocked three punts, converting all three to touchdowns.
Wesleyan took a 7-0 lead four minutes into the game after Tom Moran blocked a Bowdoin punt and Kevin Lenane recovered the ball at the Bowdoin 31-yard line. Six plays later, Brennan Carney connected with Sam Fletcher from 21 yards out for a touchdown.
Carney made the score 14-0 when he hit Todd Themistocles on an 18-yard scoring pass at 11:40 of the second quarter. With 4:15 to go in the half, Mark Olschefski blocked a Bowdoin punt and Steve Woodruff scooped up the loose ball for a 31-yard touchdown and a 20-0 halftime lead.
Bowdoin got on the scoreboard when Tim Lawson scored on a two-yard run.

Men’s hockey
Northeastern 5, Wisconsin 4 (OT)
At Boston, Scott Selig scored with 1:16 to play in the extra period to give Northeastern an overtime victory over top-ranked Wisconsin Saturday night.
Northeastern (4-1-0) appeared to have the game wrapped up, but Wisconsin (7-1-0) scored two goals in the final two minutes.
With Wisconsin trailing 4-2, Dany Heatley scored a power play goal at the 18:27 mark of the third period. With 15 seconds left, Heatley won a faceoff to Jeff Dessner, who one-timed it past Mike Gilhooly (20 saves).
Mike Ryan scored two goals for Northeastern. Joe Mastronardi and Trevor Reschny also scored.
Matt Hussey and Matt Murray also scored for Wisconsin. Graham Melanson made 26 saves.
Providence 4, Boston U. 4 (OT)
At Providence, R.I., Devin Rask scored with less than two minutes to play in the game to help Providence salvage a 4-4 overtime tie with Boston University Saturday night in the Hockey East opener for both teams.
Providence (2-0-1) took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by Jon DiSalvatore and Adam Lee, but 1-1-1 BU scored the next three goals.
Brian Collins scored a power play goal late in the first period. Then Carl Corrazini tied it at 2-2 with a short-handed goal at 2:40.
