PRESQUE ISLE – Jeanie L. McGowan will fill a one-year appointment as the outreach coordinator for the Northern Maine Museum of Science on the campus of the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The position is funded through a grant from the Jane B. Cook Charitable Trust.

As coordinator, she will develop the range of the NMMS by procuring financial support to enable the museum to offer its resources and support to families, educators and the community.

McGowan earned a bachelor of liberal studies degree with a concentration in geo-ecology from UMPI in May. Her museum experience includes working at Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, Ariz., and most recently, the Savannah History Museum in Savannah, Ga.

Museum outreach project ideas include nature trails, providing outdoor tour activities for campus trails, signs and guidebooks to trails, a Web site and teacher-made exhibits. The latter, to be made into traveling exhibits, will be duplicated, with one to be maintained at the teacher’s school and the other to be housed by the museum to lend to other schools.
