BANGOR – Alice will follow the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole and find herself on stage Saturday when Bangor Youth Ballet presents a production of “Alice in Wonderland.”
Featuring young dancers from throughout the area, the two-act ballet will be performed at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.
Under the artistic direction of Ivy Forrest, former principal dancer with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City, the production features 50 dancers, ranging in age from 10 to 18. Original choreography is by Forrest, with contributions from Andrew Stark, Heinrick Snyder and Jane Bragg.
A variety of music by well-known composers such as Grieg, Bizet, Puccini, Offenbach and Tchaikovsky provides the framework for the story, which highlights Alice’s encounters with the strange inhabitants of Wonderland. You will be a guest at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and meet the Cheshire Cat, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, the Caterpillar and the Queen of Hearts with her deck of cards. Funny and child-friendly, this is a show for ballet enthusiasts of all ages.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets for the Bangor show will be available until noon Saturday at BookMarc’s and Patrick’s (formerly Libby’s) Hallmark Shop, and at the door one hour before the show. For the Belfast performance, tickets are available at the Fertile Mind Bookstore in Belfast and Harbor Audio Video in Camden, and at the door on the evening of the performance.
