BANGOR – A Hudson woman was charged with assault and refusing to submit to arrest late Saturday after police were called to the Bangor Civic Center during the Speedway 95 awards banquet.

Kerri Thayer, 32, was taken to Penobscot County Jail after she turned on a female bartender during an altercation with another person.

The bartender suffered a bump on her lip and red marks on her upper arm and chest, according to Officer Shawn Green’s report.

Described in the police report as belligerent and swearing, Thayer struggled as police attempted to handcuff her, Green said.

After officers were forced to kneel on the woman’s back to restrain her, several members of the crowd chastised them for “handling a lady in such a manner,” according to the report.

The fight broke out amid several quarrels that occurred simultaneously, said Green, who subsequently called for additional units. There were no other arrests.
