Many newspapers in the United States, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, want to disenfranchise 22,000 Florida citizens in the name of “stability.” They represent corporations and other monied interests for whom democracy is an abstract concept.
For the demonstrators in Palm Beach and at the Florida statehouse, it couldn’t be more concrete. Democracy means your vote is not shredded, tossed out or taken away by a confusing ballot. It is counted. Margaret Cruikshank Orono
