Portland schools alone received 17 bomb threats last academic year, a legislative study committee was told. Statistics on those incidents:

Total average cost per re-sponse: $120

Single highest cost: $950

Lowest cost: $40

Average time spent on bomb threats: 1.6 hours

Longest time: 5 hours

Least time: 0.5 hour

Average cost per response: $18/hour per officer

Supervisor: $33/hour

Per vehicle: $10/hour

On average, 2.6 officers and 1.1 supervisors responded to threats.

Six of 12 suspects were apprehended. Suspects’ average age was 14.
