EAST MACHIAS – The town was presented with a $15,000 check to help fund the first phase of repairs to the Gardner Lake Dam.

The money came through a grant from the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund.

Construction began last month. The repair project will stop several major leaks in the dam and is designed ensure that the fishway remains effective during the migration season for Atlantic salmon, sea run brook trout and alewives.
