BANGOR – The Meals for Me program is experiencing a shortage of drivers to deliver hot meals to homebound elderly in the Bangor, Brewer, Hermon and Old Town areas.

The shortage is a result of volunteers going south for the winter. With the holiday season approaching, the need is compounded.

“Winter always is a challenge,” said Jeanne Spaulding, coordinator for the Bangor Meals for Me program.

“If more volunteers re not found, delivery routes will have to be canceled on days when there is no driver for that route.”

Volunteers for a route would pick up the meals at a designated downtown location. The route takes one to two hours. Individuals, churches or organizations that would like to volunteer to cover a route one day a week or more can contact Meals for Me at 941-2871.
