ORONO – Broadway is back at Orono High School. A company of eight devoted Orono High School performers will sing and dance their hearts out Thursday night to raise funds for an auditorium they’ll never get to use.
“Broadway Tonight 2,” to be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Orono High School gym, is produced and directed by Orono High School senior Afton Cyrus, with musical direction by Terry Henry. The show is the sequel to last year’s successful “Broadway Tonight!” which raised more than $1,600 for the OHS music department. This year, proceeds from the show will be among the first to go into a new fund to build a sorely needed auditorium at the school. Superintendent Tom Perry has also announced that an anonymous donor has offered to match every dollar brought in at the box office.
“Broadway Tonight 2” features show tunes from the last 50 years of Broadway. The company of four boys and four girls will weave their way through five decades of musical theater, including such favorites as “Seventy-Six Trombones” from “The Music Man” and “Summer Nights” from “Grease.” Desserts and beverages will be served throughout the evening.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. All proceeds will benefit the Orono High School auditorium fund.
