An Institute for Women’s Policy Research released a new study Wednesday rating women’s economic, political and social status in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

One of the indicators rated states on an “Employment and Earnings Composite Index,” accounting for women’s earnings, the wage gap with men, women’s representation in managerial and professional jobs, and women’s participation in the labor force.

The states were not ranked relative to one another; they appear in alphabetical order.

States that ranked in the top third:
