ST. HERMENEGILDE, Quebec – Canadian Forces personnel confirmed Thursday the death of a pilot whose small plane crashed in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

The single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed Wednesday on Mount Hereford, south of Sherbrooke near the U.S. border, after it had left Maine. It was heading to Montreal.

Members from the Forces’ search and rescue in Trenton, Ontario, sent a helicopter to help look for the plane.
