As one who was ready to dump the Electoral College as archaic and irrelevant, this presidential election has reminded me that it is the only thing protecting low-population states like Maine from the tyranny of the big-city and megalopolis-based majorities.

Although I’m for George W. Bush, I would accept the result if Al Gore won fairly. The fact that Hillary Clinton is for changing the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College is also a reminder that she is setting up for a presidential run counting on the big-city liberal and minority vote.

In Maine, we see the two-Maine tilt favoring the populous southern, more liberal electorate, overpowering by sheer numbers the more centrist, less populated, other Maine. Orin Lowe Holden
