Humane Society to hold membership drive

BANGOR – In an effort to beef up its ranks, the Bangor Humane Society is holding its first-ever membership drive. The theme of the drive is “Best Friends … Forever.” It emphasizes the Bangor Humane Society’s desire to be one of the community’s best friends for years to come. It also highlights the special relationship between pets and their new owners.

“We want people to know that when they donate to the animals at the Bangor Humane Society, they play an integral part in saving lives. The membership program will assist in this goal,” said Bev Uhlenhake, executive director.

Beginning Nov. 20, individuals and businesses in the Bangor area will receive letters inviting them to become charter members. Memberships are available at many different levels. Membership is not restricted to people only in the Bangor area.

Uhlenhake said the range of giving for individuals is $25-$500. Every charter member will receive a membership card designating them as charter members, which will always appear on the card. Corporate membership also is invited, Uhlenhake said. “It’s a way for area businesses to show their support for the care and placement of these animals who come through our doors, and to help boost adoption efforts.” Levels of membership range from $250-$1,000. Each membership includes a certificate for hanging in the place of business. A $1,000 membership entitles the donor to a plaque in the lobby,” she said. Membership also entitles holders to take part in open houses and it also could lead to volunteering.

People who do not receive membership information in the mail may call the society at 942-8902 for membership packets. People may also come to the society at 693 Mt. Hope Ave. The Web site is www.bangorhumane society.com.
