ELLSWORTH – Patrons were spared, but two large windows separating Uncle Jay’s House of Pizza from Main Street were destroyed Monday when a driverless car rolled across the street and into the business shortly before 4 p.m.
Marjorie Crockett of Ellsworth parked the car, a 1986 Saab, across Main Street at Hancock Oil Co. When she returned, it was gone.
The vehicle rolled down the Main Street hill, stopping when it crashed into the pizzeria, with only minor damage. When Crockett removed the car from the scene, she noted that it had not slipped out of gear.
A valuation of the damage to the Uncle Jay’s windows was not available Thursday.
