BANGOR – An Eddington man remained in critical condition Friday after surviving a Thursday morning crash that claimed the life of a local woman.

Merton Merry, 71, remained hospitalized at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with injuries he sustained when his 1992 Dodge pickup truck collided with a cement truck on Route 9 in Eddington.

Merry’s passenger, Barbara Arey, 58, also of Eddington, was killed in the crash.

Merry and Arey were not wearing seat belts, police said.

The accident occurred when Merry failed to yield to the eastbound truck when attempting to pull onto Route 9 from the Rooks Road, according to police.

The driver of the cement truck was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.
