BANGOR – Bangor’s Jason St. Pierre led the University of Southern Maine to a 78-70 men’s basketball victory over the St. Joseph’s College Monks in the Maine Event Tourney at Husson’s Newman Gym Friday night.

Jeff White of Newport stepped in with 12 points, and Matt Tarbox contributed 10.

Leroy Gore netted 16 points for St. Joseph’s. Travis Seaver added another 11points.

At Waterville, Presque Isle native Kim Condon scored 18 points to lead the Colby College White Mules to a win in their first game of the season – the opener of the Colby Tipoff Classic.

Caitlyn Bourque and Bianca Belcher scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, to chip in for the Mules. Sarah Walsh had eight points and 10 rebounds.

For the Western New England College Golden Bears, Lyndsay Black and Krista Savard each scored 10 points.

At Presque Isle Thursday night, the Albertson College Coyotes ran down the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls behind a 41-23 rebounding advantage.

The nationally-ranked (sixth in the NAIA) Coyotes were led by Linsi Sloan, who scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Melissa Jensen (14 points), Alyson Pincock (13) and Heidi Goicoechea (10) also paced Albertson.

Rachel Larlee led the 2-1 Owls with 17 points and seven boards. Rachel Underwood chipped in with 12 points.

At Waterville, Jennifer Pelletier drove to the hoop and scored with time running out to give Plymouth State the win in the first round of the Colby Tip-off Classic.

Heather Adey scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Panthers while Courtney Albert added 15 points and nine rebounds. Pelletier finished with 15 points.

Katie Nye scored 21 points for the Braves while Liza Doughty added 20, including the go-ahead hoop with 19 seconds left. Leslie Weed and Leslie Trott scored 10 apiece.

At Orono, Karen Droog, Jarin Sjogren, and Raffi Wolf scored a goal apiece to lead the Black Bears to their fourth win of the season.

Kelly Nelson offered an assist to Droog who notched the first goal. Goalkeeper Dawn Froats stopped 25 of 26 shots for 4-3-0 Maine.

Briana Jentner scored for Cornell in the third period. Sanya Sandahl and Elizabeth Connelly combined for 19 saves on 22 shots for 2-3-0 Cornell.
