E PLANTATION – State police were investigating a single-vehicle accident that took the life of an Aroostook County resident early Sunday morning.

Pronounced dead at the scene was Sam Brownly, 19, of E Plantation, a small community west of Blaine in southern Aroostook County, said Trooper Brian Harris of the Maine State Police.

The accident was reported at 5:45 a.m., Harris said Sunday afternoon, but it was unknown what time it occurred.

Brownly was traveling east on the E Plantation Road when he apparently lost control of his 1992 Chevrolet pickup as he rounded a curve, the trooper said.

The truck left the opposite side of the road and struck a tree, and Brownly was ejected. The lone occupant of the truck, Brownly was not wearing a seat belt, Harris said.

The accident remains under investigation pending reconstruction by state police experts today, Harris said.
