OLD TOWN – Police continue to look for two people suspected of taking jewelry, valuables, $2,500 in cash and a handgun from a North Main Street residence early Friday morning.

Authorities weren’t releasing the names of the 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman as they have not been charged with anything, but issued an alert Friday to Maine police departments.

The woman knew the resident and had gone along with the 22-year-old man to North Main Street about 1 a.m. Friday to pick up something she owned, reported Old Town police Officer Travis Roy. The resident said the two left and that it was later that morning that he noticed his briefcase missing.

Roy said the briefcase contained coins, jewelry and $2,500 in cash as well as a semiautomatic pistol. The officer said they have received reports about the two since the theft, but have yet to locate them. He said it wasn’t known even if they were still in the state.
