FAIRFIELD – Police were called Saturday afternoon to Western Avenue in response to a man who had collapsed on some doorway steps.

Lewis Wyman, 69, of Oakland was pronounced dead upon arrival at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville.

Officer Kingston Paul of the Fairfield Police Department said that Wyman had left a football game and had been walking back to his vehicle near Pike Industries when he apparently became ill.

The man stopped and sat down on some steps, summoned someone walking nearby and then collapsed.
