BANGOR – An Irish aircraft was diverted to Bangor International Airport on Sunday afternoon when a passenger became ill.

According to a BIA dispatcher, the Aer Lingus flight was on its way from Dublin to New York when it was forced to stop in Bangor at 1:25 p.m.

A passenger was taken off the plane and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The plane departed BIA for the rest of its trip at 2:40 p.m. The number of passengers on board was not known at press time.

According to officers at the Bangor Police Department, passenger John O’Driscoll became ill on a combination of Librium and alcohol.

Librium is a brand name for a type of drug used to relieve nervousness or tension.

A hospital nursing supervisor said no information was available Sunday night.
