NEWPORT – Melissa White, a senior at Nokomis Regional High School, is nominated to compete in the national Principal’s Leadership Award scholarshi program, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

White has been a member of the marching band, Key Club, student council and yearbook staff. She has held office in the junior class and Key Club. She was a yearbook editor for two years and a marching band drum major. White earned academic awards in English and algebra and took part in girls junior varsity basketball and varsity track and field.

Nominees are selected by their principals based on leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience and academic record. Nominees also had to write an essay for the program.
