ROCKLAND – On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Guild of the Farnsworth Art Museum is sponsoring a bus trip to visit the “Frank W. Benson: American Impressionist” exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass.
Benson has been called the last great American impressionist, the dean of American etchers and a master of the sporting print. Frank W. Benson defined himself as an artist whose talent was to “simply follow the light, where it comes from, where it goes.”
A Salem native who studied in Paris, Benson returned to America to establish himself as a portrait painter in the early 1900s. His paintings of women and children inspired what came to be known as the Boston School of Impressionism. Benson’s connection with Maine stemmed from his vacations on North Haven.
Bus seating is limited for this one-day trip, which costs $55 per person. Reservations will be taken from Nov. 24 through Dec. 15.
