WATERVILLE – Police arrested a Clinton man early Wednesday after finding him nude in a car with a teen-age girl.
Kevin Lounsbury, 23, was released from the Waterville police station on his own recognizance after being charged with sexual abuse of a minor, said Deputy Chief Joseph Massey.
The charge is a misdemeanor, carrying up to a year in jail.
Around 5:30 a.m., a resident reported seeing a car parked on the lawn of a business on a side street off College Avenue, Massey said. Officer Bill Bonney responded and found a young man and a teen-age girl nude and sleeping under a blanket.
“It was pretty obvious what had happened,” Massey said.
Lounsbury and the girl, who is 15 and from Fairfield, said they were dating and the sex was consensual. In Maine, however, the age of consent is 16.
“The fact that he was 23 and she was 15 was a statutory violation,” Massey said.
Lounsbury is scheduled to appear in Waterville District Court on Jan. 10.
