Former University of Maine-Presque Isle wrestler and wrestling coach Chico Hernandez will represent the United States and North America Sunday at the World Cup of Sombo Wrestling in Nice, France.

Hernandez will compete in the 163-pound (middleweight) class against six other competitors representing the other regions of the world. The weigh-in is Saturday. The 12-time U.S. National Masters Champion and winner of 25 American Amateur Athletic Union National All-America titles, has been competing in Sombo wrestling since 1987.

The 47-year-old Washburn resident, who was a four-time all-New England selection at UMPI, was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 1992.
