BANGOR – Bangor Rotary’s Festival of Lights parade will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.
The parade will start at Exchange Street, cross State Street to Harlow Street, turn left down Central Street, proceed across Hammond Street to Main Street and continue past Union Street, to end at the corner of Main and Cedar streets.
More than 60 floats will take part in the parade, along with marching units and performing groups from area businesses, schools, religious institutions and nonprofit organizations.
This year’s parade theme is “Traditions of the Season,” exhibiting the breadth of traditions of our culture. The parade is sponsored by Adelphia.
In addition to the many floats, spectators can purchase a special fiber optic light wand. The Bangor Rotary and Adelphia are teaming up with members of the Bangor Skate Park Committee to sell this light. The cost is $5 and will benefit the Skate Park fund.
Other events to take place downtown on Dec. 2 are: The film classic “White Christmas” will be shown at 2 p.m. an 7 p.m. at the Bangor Opera House. This event is sponsored by the Warren Center.
A lighting ceremony will begin at 4:15 p.m. at the Kenduskeag Mall, in memory of Brian Flynn. This event is sponsored by Bangor Center Corp. and Bangor Hydro.
The annual community tree lighting will take place after the parade, at approximately 5:30 p.m. in West Market Square. This event is sponsored by BCC.
