WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Maine 19- and 16-under field hockey stars won three out of four at the National Field Hockey Festival in Florida Thursday.
The 19-and-under team had a win and a tie with Jen Walker of Massabesic scoring the lone goal in the tie. In the 4-1 win over Central New York, Jenny Dill of Gardiner scored twice, while Ashley Sennett of Winslow and Bri Searles of Skowhegan had the other goals. Megan Gove of Skowhegan and Gardiner’s Nicole Sergent had one save apiece. In the tie, Sergent had two saves and Gove had one.
Meanwhile, the 16-and-under team won one and lost one. In the 2-1 loss to Gate St. Louis, Ramie Merrill of Skowhegan scored the only goal, while goalies Natasha Scott of Belfast had three saves, and Cony’s Becca Giroux had seven. In the second game, a 1-0 win over Spirit USA West. Rockland’s Caitlyn Grant had the goal for Maine. Giroux and Scott made six saves each.
