AUBURN – The Maine Council of Churches elected new members to the board of directors and presented a program on environmental sustainability at its annual assembly held Nov. 3 at St. Philip’s Roman Catholic Church, Auburn.
Delegates from the council’s eight member denominations and 13 associate member groups heard a special presentation by Paul Paydos, vice president of technical services for Guilford of Maine.
The Rev. Margrethe Brown, Presbyterian, of Leeds, was elected to a two-year term as president of the board of directors. The Rev. Francis Blouin, Roman Catholic, a member of the order of Brothers of Christian Instruction at the Notre Dame Institute in Alfred, was elected vice president of the board.
The Rev. Thomas Merrillo, pastor of Clark Memorial United Methodist church, Portland, was elected to a second term as treasurer.
The annual assembly voted to create an Economic Justice Program on behalf of Mainers adversely affected by economic inequality and injustice. In the coming months, the council will develop a program to address economic issues.
