Firefighters in Lincoln contain garage blaze

LINCOLN – A garage at 62 McKenzie Ave. received minimal damage after a fire started on its lower level Sunday evening.

No one was injured in the fire.

A structure fire was reported to the Lincoln Fire Department at 6:46 p.m. When the first fire crew arrived a few minutes later, heavy smoke was pouring from the building.

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby trailer and knocked down the blaze in 12 minutes. Mattawamkeag Fire Rescue was also at the scene.

Frank Hammond, Lincoln fire chief, estimated the smoke and minimal fire damage to the ceiling and tools contained in the building may total approximately $5,000.

A storage space in the upper part of the garage was untouched.

The fire is under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious, according to Hammond.
