I hope Wayne Brown’s excellent article (BDN, Nov. 23) on the financial problems of the Temple Cinema in Houlton will serve as a wake-up call to everyone in the Houlton area.

What a shame it would be to have such a beautiful and historic cinema to close due to lack of support. The closing of this cinema would be a loss to everyone in the Houlton area, especially the children and teen-agers. Many parents and grandparents in that area must still have many wonderful memories of going to the Temple as children, teen-agers and young adults. The hometown movie cinema has a special magic to it and memories that will last a lifetime.

I can certainly sympathize with owner Herbie Hockenhull for all the hard work he is doing to keep the cinema open. The same hard work had to be done at my former theater in Pittsfield to help keep it open. Thanks to community support the theater is still open and doing well.

I hope the citizens in Houlton will realize the value of the Temple Cinema and give it the support it needs to stay open. Market Square would never be the same without it. Glen Wheaton Pittsfield
