ENFIELD – Investigators from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a break-in at the Enfield Town Office where computer equipment was taken overnight Monday.
The computers contained town records, but municipal officials had backed up that vital information making the theft less of a problem than it could have been, said Chief Deputy Glenn Ross of the sheriff’s department.
Deputy Peter Stone and Detective William Flagg are investigating the burglary and were in Enfield Tuesday interviewing people and looking for forensic evidence, Ross said.
Entry was gained by breaking in a door, and components from three computers were taken. Ross said it wasn’t clear if the computer cases – containing hard drives – were the prime objective of the break-in, or if they had been interrupted before anything else could be taken.
Today, Penobscot County Sheriff Edward Reynolds is expected to alert other town offices to the theft and make sure they have taken security precautions with town records.
Anyone with information can contact Flagg at 947-4585.
