PORTLAND – Curt Hazlett, managing editor of the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, announced Monday that he is resigning.

“It is simply a good time to get on with my life,” Hazlett, 47, said.

Hazlett joined the newspaper as night city editor in 1991. He later was business editor and assistant managing editor for news.

Hazlett will leave Dec. 8. Eric Conrad, the assistant managing editor for sports, will be acting managing editor until a permanent replacement is found.
