One solution to the problem of media giving the various states to one or the other presidential candidates might be thus:

The polls would open at 8 a.m. local time in the Pacific Time Zone and close at 8 p.m. The polls would open at 9 a.m. local time in the Mountain Time Zone and close at 9 p.m. The polls would open at 10 a.m. local time in the Central Time Zone and close at 10 p.m. The polls would open at 11 a.m. local time in the Eastern Time Zone and close at 11 p.m.

In this case, all polls would open and close at the same instant. Thus the media wouldn’t have any adverse effect on any area of the country in calling the winner. G. Paul Dumont Milford
