Former Bonny Eagle student sentenced for bomb threat

PORTLAND -A former Bonny Eagle High School student has been handed a four-month jail term for making a bomb threat at the school, a sentence school officials hope will deter others who regard such threats as harmless pranks.

Mary Jo Moore, 19, of Hollis also must pay $5,000 dollars restitution, apologize to her former classmates at an assembly, serve 200 hours of community service, undergo counseling and complete her general equivalency diploma.

Moore pleaded guilty to a felony charge of terrorizing in connection with one of last year’s 17 bomb threats at the school in Standish. She was sentenced Wednesday in Cumberland County Superior Court.

If she fails to make restitution or meet the conditions of her sentence, she could face an additional 11 months in jail, Cumberland County Attorney Stephanie Anderson said.

Anderson said the sentence imposed by Justice Carl O. Bradford should serve as a warning to others.

“There was a message sent here that if you do this, and we catch you, this isn’t a joke,” Anderson said.
