In Elmer Morin’s letter of Nov. 25-26, he continues the line that so many Bible followers use to promote hate and misunderstanding of gay people – Leviticus. So I took his advice and went to said biblical offering. After chuckling my way though all the burnt offerings material, I arrived at Leviticus 20.
True, homosexual encounters are a no-no in this book. But if you’re going to admonish and kill people based on these ancient, ignorant laws, how about killing your son for swearing at you? (Leviticus 20:9), or being ostracized from society for having sex with your wife during her period (Leviticus 20:18)? Another gem is a directive not to wear linen and wool at the same time.
There was an uproar in this area when some out-of-state Baptists brought their vile, anti-gay protests to gay-friendly churches in this area. The “God hates fags” group carried posters that read “AIDS cures fags.” They even had their children carrying these things. It was nice to see so much of the community rally together against this bigotry.
Gay people are choosing their mates as nature has instructed them to do, as do non-gays, to hopefully find a life of happiness without prejudice.
