MAINE vs. NORTHEASTERN

Time, site: Friday, 7 p.m., Alfond Arena, Orono; Sunday, 2 p.m., Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland

Team records: Maine 5-4-3 (2-1-1 Hockey East); Northeastern 5-5-1 (2-3-1)

Series, last meeting: Northeastern leads 32-28-10; 1-1 tie on Nov. 4

Key players: Maine – C Chris Heisten (2 goals, 10 assists), C Lucas Lawson (4 & 5), C Martin Kariya (3 & 4), RW Matthias Trattnig (3 & 4), D Doug Janik (1 & 6), G Matt Yeats (4-2-1 record, 2.33 goals-against average, .900 save percentage), G Mike Morrison (1-2-2, 1.02, .958); Northeastern – C Graig Mischler (2 & 9), LW Mike Ryan (7 & 3), C Chris Lynch (7 & 3), RW Scott Selig (4 & 6), D Jim Fahey (0 & 9), G Mike Gilhooly (2-3-1, 3.44, .872), G Jason Braun (3-2-0, 3.20, .902)

Outlook: Northeastern is 2-0-2 in its last four meetings with Maine. Both teams have struggled to put the puck in the net. The Huskies have lost three straight and managed only four goals. Maine hasn’t scored more than two goals in four of its last six games. Both teams are without a top defenseman as Maine won’t have Peter Metcalf (knee) and NU is missing Arik Engbrecht (back). The Huskies, 2-1-3 in their last six games at Alfond Arena, will try to play a thorough defensive game and keep it simple offensively. They won’t want to turn the puck over in the neutral zone to fuel Maine’s transition game. The Bears will try to create a fast tempo and drive hard to the NU net to generate “garbage” goals. UM freshman winger Brendan Donovan is doubtful with a lacerated kidney and D Eric Turgeon is questionable with a shoulder ailment.
