BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Your editorial of Nov. 25-26, “Public and the radio,” was right on target. There are some priceless traditions that merit preservation. Permit me to express my deep disappointment and dismay at the unfortunate decision of Maine Public Radio to cancel the live broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera. Surely there are numerous listeners, unable to travel to New York to attend opera, but have been able to enjoy the next best solution: the Saturday matinee live performances carried by the public radio.

It is a very special time, set apart for three to four hours, only once a week for about five months of the year. That is not too much to ask and expect from MPR.
