SCARBOROUGH – Hannaford Bros. Co. announced Friday it has reached an agreement with C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. of Brattleboro, Vt., to purchase five Grand Union stores in Vermont and New York.

The stores are in Milton, Vt.; Enosburg Falls, Vt; Kingston, N.Y.; Delmar, N.Y.; and Saugerties, N.Y.

Hannaford spokeswoman Caren Epstein said the company hoped the purchase would be completed by mid-January. She said Hannaford would interview employees at the Grand Union stores and plans to make as many job offers as possible.
