BANGOR – Katie McLaughlin tossed in 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor as the Bates College Bobcats rolled over the University of Maine-Machias Clippers 91-43 in the Paul Bunyan Tourney opener Friday night at Newman Gym.

Husson beat Rochester Institute of Technology in their women’s basketball nightcap 85-71.

Husson meets Bates in today’s championship at 3 p.m. after the consolation.

Justine Ferland added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners of Lewistion Katy Dutille added 10, Marcy Grossman had 10, and Lisa Golobski had eight rebounds.

Betsy Elmer had 13 points for the Clippers. Angela Robb had 11 points, and Camilla Anderson had nine points and eight rebounds.

At Waterville, Damien Strahorn poured in 25 points to power the White Mules to the win and a berth in Saturday’s Colby Invitational championship game against Hamilton.

Zeb Davis and Sam Clark each chipped in with 24 points for Colby.

Alonzo Hoose led Notre Dame with a team-high 23 points.

Princeton 65, Weber State 60 OT

MUNCIE, Ind. – Mike Bechtold and Kyle Wente each scored 13 points as Princeton defeated Weber State 65-60 in overtime Friday in the First Merchants Classic.

Princeton (1-2) led 52-44 – its largest lead of the game – with 59 seconds left in regulation. But Weber State (2-2) scored five straight points to cut the deficit to three.

Princeton clung to a 54-49 lead with 28 seconds remaining, but Weber State’s Ivan Gatto made a 3-pointer – his only points of the game. Wente then made one-of-two free throws to push the lead back to three.

Weber State’s John Hamilton hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Princeton went on to score six of its 10 overtime points on free throws.

Ed Persia and C.J. Chapman both scored 11 points for Princeton, which was 12-of-38 from 3-point range, including three each from Bechtold, Persia and Chapman.

Weber State got 13 points apiece from Damon King and Quynn Tebbs. Stephan Bachmann scored 11 points and Chris Woods grabbed 11 rebounds.

Weber State opened the game with a 12-8 lead, but Princeton went on a 12-1 run and led 26-25 at the half.

NU 89, UNC-Greensboro 77

BOSTON – Marcus Blossom scored 23 points and Tyrone Hammick added a career-high 22 Friday night as Northeastern held off two second-half surges by UNC-Greensboro for an 89-77 win.

Jean Bain had 14 points and Jean Francois had nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Northeastern (1-3).

Boston native Courtney Eldridge scored a career-high 25 for UNC-Greensboro (1-3) and David Schuck added 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Northeastern led by 13 at halftime, but UNC-Greensboro went on a 13-5 run in the first 6:30 of the second half to pull within 47-42. Northeastern responded with a 12-2 surge to take its largest lead of the night, 59-44, with just under 11 minutes to play.

Sam H. 88, Corpus Christi 63

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Jeremy Burkhalter scored 19 points Friday night to lead Sam Houston State to an 88-63 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the Southwest Missouri State Pizza Hut Classic.

Corpus Christi (3-3) tried to stay with the more experienced Bearkats and trailed by five points with more than 15 minutes left.

But following a time-out, Sam Houston (3-2) went on a 24-8 run, including four straight baskets by Brian Jordy, to take a 66-45 lead with 8:34 remaining.

Derrick Douglas scored 15, Senecca Wall had 14 and Demetrice Sims had 10 points for Sam Houston. Michael Hicks had 19 points and nine rebounds and Brian Hamilton added 15 points for the Islanders, who shot just 35 percent from the field.

The Bearkats will play Southwest Missouri in the second game Saturday night, and Corpus Christi plays North Texas in the opener.

Holy Cross 73, Manhattan 61

WORCESTER, Mass. – Patrick Whearty scored 23 points and had a career-high 13 rebounds and Jave Meade sparked a second-half run to lead Holy Cross to a 73-61 victory over Manhattan Friday night.

Ryan Serravalle added 18 points for Holy Cross (4-1) while Durelle Brown led Manhattan (2-1) with 21.

Holy Cross trailed 42-39 early in the second half after Manhattan’s Von Damien Green hit a 3-pointer.

But Holy Cross answered with an 11-0 run. Jared Curry hit a 3-pointer and Whearty scored inside and drew a foul. Meade then scored back-to-back field goals and added a free throw for a 50-42 lead with 8:36 left.

Manhattan’s Michael Johnson hit a 3-pointer to cut the Holy Cross lead to 61-54 with 3:10 left. But Serravalle hit three free throws and Meade added a basket to push the lead to 68-60 with 1:22 to play.

Whearty’s nine points and Serravelle’s three 3-point field goals sparked Holy Cross to a 27-18 lead with 6:46 left in the first half. But Brown scored six in a 12-7 run to bring Manhattan within 34-30 at halftime.
