Davis powers Colby to title

WATERVILLE – Zeb Davis hit two 3-pointers in overtime Saturday to lift the Colby College White Mules to a 75-69 men’s basketball victory over Hamilton (N.Y.) College in the Colby Invitational championship at Wadsworth Gym.

Davis finished with 21 points and earned tournament MVP honors. All-tournament choice Sam Clark paced Colby with 33 points and 10 rebounds.

Kris Fudge paced Hamilton with 19 points.

The all-tourney team also included: Antrone Moore, UM-Presque Isle; Alonzo Hoose, Notre Dame; Joe Finley and Kris Fudge, Hamilton.

Amy Quinlan made 23 saves to post the shutout for 9-2-1 Providence.

Amanda Cronin helped keep the game close for the 5-6 Bears, turning away 26 shots. UMaine went 0-for-4 on the power play.

Northeastern 5, Maine 3

At Boston Sunday, Brooke Whitney scored two goals in the second period to help the Huskies overcome a two-goal deficit and earn the win over the Black Bears.

Michelle Lorion and Lisa Giovanelli each added a goal and three assists for 8-2 Northeastern. Erika Silva made 25 saves on 28 shots.

Maine’s Karen Droog knocked in a Kristin Keller rebound and Meaghan Aarts added a goal off a Droog rebound. Dawn Froats stopped 41 of the 46 shots she faced for 5-7 Bears.
