PRESQUE ISLE – For the second straight year, two University of Maine at Presque Isle students have earned the top awards among honors students from across the UMaine System. Lea Allen of Lower Kintore, New Brunswick, received the first-place L. Edward Willard Jr. Award, while Eric Pelkey of Caribou earned second-place honors. The students received their awards during the annual Honors Weekend held this year at Farmington, Nov. 3-4.

Each year, honors students throughout the UMaine System attend the Honors Weekend where they are encouraged to submit scholarly writings. If their work is published in The Maine Scholar, the students are eligible for the L. Edward Willard Jr. Award. A committee of faculty from the seven UM campuses read the submissions and present awards to the top three writers.
