Calendar to recognize women’s achievements

PRESQUE ISLE – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community will continue in 2001 to combine its fund-raising efforts with recognizing Aroostook County women for their achievements.

The Presque Isle center is accepting nominations for its 2002 “Celebrating Women of Aroostook” calendars. Aroostook residents are asked to nominate an outstanding woman within their family or community and to submit nominations to MCWWC, 33 Edgemont Drive, Presque Isle 04769. Nominations must be received by Feb. 23, 2001. Nominations submitted in past years but not selected may be resubmitted by calling 764-0050.

A selection committee will choose 12 women for the 2002 calendar based on achievement in diverse areas including politics, the arts, farming, parenting, education, community contributions, business, strength of character and courage through adversity and hard times, inspiration to others and uniqueness as a role model. All submissions will be considered for this special recognition.

Nominations should be no more than one typed page and should contain the following information:

. Name, address and telephone number of the person submitting the nomination.

. Name, address and telephone number of the nominee. Include approximate age. Must be a resident of Aroostook County.

. Typed narrative describing why the nominee would deserve this recognition.

The women selected for the 2002 calendar project will be honored at a celebration on Saturday, March 31, 2001, on the Northern Maine Technical College campus during National Women’s History Month.
