NORTHEAST HARBOR – Mount Desert selectmen voted Monday to schedule a public hearing on an ordinance change that would make Main Street’s one-way status permanent.
In recent years, the street, which runs north to south, has permitted two-way traffic during slower winter months, but only northbound traffic during the busy summer season.
If enacted, the ordinance change would limit travel to one way throughout the year.
Selectmen endorsed the change at a recent meeting, so the typical winter traffic pattern has not been enacted this year.
The public hearing will be held at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at the Mount Desert town office.
